Brooke & Marina Go to Europe: The Cliffs of Moher (June 7, 2011)

On Tuesday, June 7, Paul and Lisa took us to see the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare, Ireland. They are about a three hour drive from their house in Killdaire and are located along the Atlantic edge of the country. Once we arrived there, we immediately noticed how windy it was as the winds were rocking our parked car back and forth. We bundled up and ventured over to see the Cliffs. They were pretty phenomenal. I'm sure the pictures I post certainly cannot do it justice, but at least it will give you the idea. We walked on the paths until they ended, but then realized you could actually go further so we crawled through a fence and followed the hikers. This is when it got scary! We were literally walking along a tiny path right beside the edge of a cliff that's 600 feet above the rock filled water below. Once we walked all along this side we went across to the other side and crossed over another barrier; however, this side seemed much more popular as most people were completely ignoring the sign that said not to cross. Along this path there were several locations where people crawl out to the edge (you wouldn't want to walk, it's too windy and you could fall over the edge) and stick your face over the edge to look down at the water below. We took a few opportunities to do this and the view was incredible and terrifying all at once. As soon as you stick your head over the side a huge gust of wind hits you in the face and then your vision clears and you can see what's down below. There's really not a good way to describe this feeling other than panic and awe all at once haha
